Scotland’s national airline Loganair teamed up once again with Scottish Ballet to bring the acclaimed production A Streetcar Named Desire to the island communities of Orkney and Lewis in June 2023.

As inclusion is one of Scottish Ballet’s company values, it is crucial to share the power of dance beyond the mainland to ensure as many people as possible can access our performances and engagement work. Through our partnership with Loganair, we were able to make this happen.

With Loganair’s support of in-kind travel, Scottish Ballet delivered four performances of A Streetcar Named Desire as well as two family friendly Nutcracker Sweets shows in Kirkwall and Lewis, entertaining over 1,800 audience members. Loganair not only provided flights for our dancers and technical crew, but also the company’s Engagement delivery team. Over ten days, Engagement delivered 73 events in Orkney and Lewis, achieving over 1100 participations with an age range of 2 to 92. We even had a first time ballet participant at the age of 71!

Loganair’s unique mainland to island routes helped balance the business and environmental needs of Scottish Ballet’s touring schedule. All Loganair’s flights include mandatory seat offsetting, minimising the carbon footprint on this ambitious tour and assisting Scottish Ballet in bringing ballet back to the islands.

The partnership between Loganair and Scottish Ballet is rewarding for all concerned not least our own staff who are incredibly proud to be working alongside their talented dancers. There are many similarities between our two organisations, including our inherent values and importance placed on local communities. It’s our privilege to help facilitate travel for such a world class team and help showcase the best of Scotland!
