A woman with long hair reaches out. Two gloved hands reach in as if to try and grab her, while another person sits behind her with their head bowed. The scene conveys a sense of longing or distress.

In 2023, Scottish Ballet did a call-out to its own company of dancers, asking them to pitch ideas for a short film that they would like to create and choreograph, with support from the production team and in-house film director Eve McConnachie.

Three short films were produced; Breathless, How Much Squid is Too Much Squid? and Shadowash.

Have you ever felt trapped – unable to escape a situation or a specific state of mind? Shadowash explores the experience of someone whose mind has been compromised.

Choreographer: Andrea Azzari
Director: Eve McConnachie
Dancers: Noa Barry, Rishan Benjamin, Alice Kawalek, Kayla-Maree Tarantolo, Anna Williams
