Joe Powell Main

Choreographer

Black and white portrait of a young man with short dark hair, looking directly at the camera with a neutral expression. The background is dark and uncluttered.

Joe Powell Main, a dancer from Mid Wales, showed early promise in ballet, training from age five and joining the Royal Ballet School Junior Associate programme at seven. He later trained at the Royal Ballet School in London, performing with The Royal Ballet. However, injury, surgery complications, and a serious car accident led to him leaving and pausing dance for three years.

Joe returned to dance through wheelchair Latin and ballroom, becoming a UK National Para Dance Champion. He studied performing arts, later earning a First-Class degree in Dance and Performance, and rebuilt his ballet career, gaining recognition on social media.

He joined Ballet Cymru in 2020, performed in major productions, and in 2021 became the first wheelchair-using dancer to perform with The Royal Ballet. Alongside performing, Joe choreographs, teaches, and advocates for inclusivity in dance, recently founding JPM Productions to create accessible work and expand opportunities.
