The Secret Theatre
Starring characters from our most popular festive ballets, the worlds of the Snow Queen and the Sugar Plum Fairy collide when the theatre bursts into life. In this spectacular film, audiences are treated to an extraordinary show filled with acrobats, snowflakes, clowns, princes, and – of course – beautiful ballerinas.
The Snow Queen
Recorded live at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre in December 2019, this glittering production by Christopher Hampson is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s much-loved tale.

How Much Squid Is Too Much Squid
Choreographed by Ishan Mahabir-Stokes, How Much Squid Is Too Much Squid is on of three new short films created by Scottish Ballet company dancers.
Framed as a stream of consciousness, How Much Squid Is Too Much Squid makes light of the banal thoughts that cross our mind while walking down the street and the constant overload of information we are bombarded with today.
Shadowash
Choreographed by Andrea Azzari, Shadowash completes the trio of new short films created by Scottish Ballet company dancers.
Shadowash explores the experience of someone whose mind has been compromised.
Haud Close Tae Me
A reflection on the connection between our younger and older selves, this short film is directed by Eve McConnachie and features a specially commissioned poem by Scotland’s former Makar Jackie Kay.
Dive
‘I have written my name on the far side of the sky.’ – Yves Klein
Sophie Laplane partnered with James Bonas and film director Oscar Sansom to create Dive, a short film inspired by French artist Yves Klein and what has become the world’s most famous shade of blue.
The Shimmering Extraordinary
A series of six short films created by Emmy Award-nominated director Fx Goby. Commissioned as part of our Safe to Be Me® Festival 2021, a digital festival of dance that celebrates diversity, the films are inspired by the programme’s themes of acceptance, identity, and respect.

The Swan
David Dawson’s daring, visceral choreography from Swan Lake is perfectly paired with the rich, romantic Tchaikovsky score in this short film, The Swan, directed by Eve McConnachie.
Forming
This short film features two dancers from Scottish Ballet’s Elevate® – a programme of dance classes for people living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) – alongside a professional Scottish Ballet dancer – Marge Hendrick.
Odyssey
Choreographed by Scottish Ballet Associate Choreographer Nicholas Shoesmith and directed by Ciaran Lyons, this high-octane short film takes viewers on a journey through a game-like landscape inhabited by otherworldly beings, where the real and virtual collide.
Maze
A high-energy contemporary dance piece shot in the emptied Govanhill Baths in Glasgow, choreographed by Sophie Laplane.

An abstract dining room is the setting for Tremble, commissioned for the 2019 Digital Season. Tremble stars 26 Scottish Ballet dancers and is co-choreographed and directed by Jessica Wright and Morgann Runacre-Temple.
Dark Full Ride
Set to a cacophony of music recorded by four drummers, Dark Full Ride, choreographed by Martin Lawrance mirrors interweaving percussive sounds with movement.
