Healing Arts Scotland Day Events took place in locations across Scotland during the week with dialogues, workshops, performances celebrating arts for health in local communities.

  • Wednesday 21 August – Glasgow
  • Thursday 22 August – Aberdeen
  • Friday 23 August – Orkney

Tramway, Scottish Ballet and Hidden Gardens

A dynamic and participatory day that aimed to bring together communities, researchers, and academics to celebrate and debate the role of the arts in health.

The day featured workshops, performances and sessions run by Scottish arts and health practitioners and panel discussions with leading Scottish experts including Chief Medical Officer Sir Gregor Smith. It also featured world renowned arts and health experts:

  • Sangeeta Isvaran – dancer-performer and founder of the Wind Dancers Trust. Working in marginalised, underprivileged communities from over 30 countries towards education, empowerment and conflict resolution.
  • Magdalena Schamberger – theatre director, who collaborates with people living with dementia to create accessible performances in theatres, care homes, and other settings.
  • David Leventhal – founder of Dance for Parkinson’s Mark Morris Dance Company.
  • Dr Nisha Sajnani – Associate Professor and Founder of Arts & Health at NYU.
  • Moira Pirsch – Education Director at Maui Arts and Cultural Center. Leading community initiatives using the arts to empower indigenous communities.

Healing Arts Scotland linked Aberdeen University, NHS Grampian and a range of arts organisations based across the city for a day of performances, workshops and events.
