Wee Nutcracker Characters

Meet the characters in Scottish Ballet’s Wee Nutcracker.

A young woman in a dark blue, off-the-shoulder dress smiles brightly and holds her hands up, palms facing out, against a black background. She wears a beaded necklace and appears happy and expressive.

Clara

Clara is a wild, loving and funny girl who loves to dance. She receives the Nutcracker doll as a present on Christmas Eve and we follow Clara on her adventures!

A woman in a long beige trench coat and black trousers performs a dance on stage, striking a dramatic pose with one arm extended upward against a purple and blue backdrop.

Mum

Clara’s mum used to attend the same dance school as Clara and helps her on her quest to defeat the Rat King.

Two actors stand on stage; one wears a colorful sweater and gestures with an arm raised, smiling, while the other, in checkered pajamas and ballet shoes, stands beside them. A wooden bed and plaid bag are in the background.

Grandma

Clara’s Grandma gifts her the Nutcracker doll on Christmas Eve which is when the magic starts to happen!

A performer in an ornate black and gold jacket and red pants raises one arm gracefully on stage, with a vibrant purple and blue backdrop resembling a dreamy night sky.

Mr Pringle

Mr Pringle is the strict owner of Clara’s ballet school (and also looks a bit like a rat!).

A performer sits on a bed draped in a colorful blanket, while another dancer in a red costume bends dramatically on the floor, set against a dark, moody stage backdrop with blue lighting.

Nutcracker

The Nutcracker doll comes to life on Christmas eve. He and Clara adventure to the Land of Toys together.

Performers on stage in colorful costumes act out a scene; one wears a large mouse head with a crown and holds a cane, while others appear to be reacting dramatically against a backdrop of glowing lights.

Rats

Mischief makers who try to disrupt Clara’s journey.

A ballet dancer in a sailor costume performs a split leap on stage in front of a decorated white Christmas tree, with a backdrop of blue lights.

English Sailor

In Toy Land Clara meets the English Sailor who has lost his courage.

A performer dressed as a clown in an ornate red and gold costume with dramatic makeup and a pointed hat covers their mouth in surprise, set against a black background with glowing red lights.

Russian Clown

In Toy Land Clara also meets a chaotic clown in need of cheering up.

Three ballet dancers perform on stage. One, in a purple dress, kneels and appears to be crying while holding fabric. The other two, in a red costume and black-and-white checkered outfit, watch her with concern. Purple lights glow in the background.

French Fancy

Clara helps a frazzled French Fancy get her confidence back.

Performers on stage in colorful costumes act out a scene; one wears a large mouse head with a crown and holds a cane, while others appear to be reacting dramatically against a backdrop of glowing lights.

Rat King

The Rat King (who looks a lot like Mr Pringle) is the baddie of our story as he tries to stop Clara and her new friends from having fun and believing in themselves.
