In Memory of Scottish Ballet legend Eleanor Moore (Tyers)
We are dedicating the Aberdeen and Newcastle performances of The Nutcracker to Scottish Ballet legend Eleanor Moore (Tyers).
Eleanor Moore (Tyers) as the Stone Fairy in Cinderella, Theatre Royal Glasgow 1987.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Eleanor Moore (Tyers).
Eleanor played a vital role in Scottish Ballet’s history. She trained from the age of three at the Lilian McNeil School in Glasgow before joining the Scottish Ballet Scholarship Scheme.
Joining the company in 1972 and later becoming the company’s first Scottish Principal dancer, Eleanor danced iconic roles in The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake, and more. Many roles were created on her by Scottish Ballet founder Peter Darrell, highlighting her remarkable artistry.
It was at Scottish Ballet that Eleanor met her husband, Paul Tyers. Marrying in 1979, they remained together throughout their careers at Scottish Ballet and beyond at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where Eleanor was a tutor on the Modern Ballet BA course. Past and present Scottish Ballet dancers learned from Eleanor or worked with her as a colleague at the Conservatoire.
The legacy of Eleanor’s warmth, devotion to ballet, and the influence she had on young dancers cannot be underestimated. She supported many dancers through the early stages of their careers and made a lasting contribution to dance in Scotland.
Our heartfelt sympathies are with Paul and Eleanor’s family and loved ones.
