Anouar Brissel

Projection & Video Design

Anouar Brissel is a self-taught video artist whose work is deeply influenced by his diverse passions, including drawing and music composition. He channels his artistic vision into the world of live performance.

In the field of opera, Brissel has created video-scenography for productions such as Gianni Schicchi, L’Elisir d’Amore, and Don Pasquale over three seasons at the Napa Valley/Maria Manetti Shrem Opera Festival in California, directed by JR Vesperini. For Une autre histoire de Manon, directed by Claire Manjarrès and performed at the opera houses in Saint-Étienne, Vichy, and Massy, Brissel’s video work brings each character’s fantasy to life. He also works with illustrator Grégoire Pont and director James Bonas on productions including Snow Queen at the Opéra du Rhin, L’Enfant et les Sortilèges, L’Heure Espagnole, and Der Mond at the Opéra de Lyon. Additionally, he created the video design for Ariadne auf Naxos at the Opera of Magdeburg in collaboration with James Bonas.

Brissel’s video creations have also been showcased in dance, including at the Grand Théâtre de Genève for the revival of Ravel’s Boléro, choreographed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet; at the Toronto Ballet for the premiere of Emma Bovary, choreographed by Helen Pickett and directed by James Bonas; and at the Düsseldorf Opera for the ballet A Kiss to the World, choreographed by Dominique Dumais.

His work was featured at the Royal Albert Hall for the BBC Proms 2023 and at the Helsinki Music Center with the Aurora Orchestra’s performance of Le Sacre du Printemps, conducted by Nicholas Collon.

Looking ahead, Anouar Brissel continues to explore new creative horizons. Upcoming projects include the ballet Lady Macbeth with the Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam, Mary Queen of Scots with Scottish Ballet, The Sorcerer at the Presidio Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco, and The Magic Flute at the Göteborg Opera in Sweden.
