Freelance Dance Artists

Freelance Opportunity

What we’re looking for

Are you a freelance dance artist with an interest in dance health?

Scottish Ballet is currently looking for freelance dance practitioners to support the future delivery of our Scottish Ballet Health initiative. We are calling out for experienced dance artists with a range of skills to be trained in our specialist health programmes.

Click the link below to find out more about our work in health and community settings.

SB Health – Scottish Ballet

About the day

Scottish Ballet’s Engagement team will be holding a paid selection workshop, designed to offer an insight into Scottish Ballet’s health programme. This will be a chance for Scottish Ballet to connect with experienced artists that have both the skills and the desire to potentially work with us in the future in a freelance capacity.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a paid workshop on 22 April 2026. Following the workshop, some artists may then be invited to attend more paid SB Health training days.

The workshop will take place from 1pm to 4pm on Wednesday 22 April 2026 at Scottish Ballet’s headquarters in Glasgow. All attendees will receive £120 for their full attendance.

This opportunity would be most relevant to dance artists and practitioners with experience of delivering creative workshops in community, educational or dance health settings, such as:

  • Children and young people
  • Youth work or community development
  • Older people and/or care home settings
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Inclusive practice and additional support needs

In a nutshell, we want to hear from you if you have all, or some, of the following attributes:

  • Strong dance/movement practice.
  • Ability to engage people through dance/movement.
  • Experience of teaching in a range of community, educational or dance health settings.
  • Great communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to self-reflect and respond to participant needs.
  • Experience working collaboratively with a range of ages and experiences.
  • An interest in Scottish Ballet’s vision and activity.

Scottish Ballet welcomes applications from practitioners across different stages of their careers and from a range of dance backgrounds (you do not need to have ballet training to apply). We are particularly keen to hear from artists based in or near to Glasgow, Perth or Dundee.

How to apply

If you are interested and have the relevant experience, we encourage you to get in touch.

Please send us your CV and cover letter (max 2 pages each) with an  overview of your relevant experience and key skills, telling us why you are interested in working with Scottish Ballet’s Engagement team. Please send these to dancehealth@scottishballet.co.uk by 5pm on Monday 30 March 2026. If you are successful, the Engagement team will be in touch by Friday 3 April  2026.

Please note we are required to check if prospective freelance artists/practitioners have the right to work in the UK. It would be helpful if you could confirm this along with your application.

Any questions please don’t hesitate to contact the Engagement team at Scottish Ballet at the above the email address.
