Turning Pointe
Silver Friends event
IN PERSON AT SCOTTISH BALLET
Pointe shoes are one of the most recognisable symbols of ballet. They are renowned for being beautifully elegant, yet notoriously difficult to master. They are perfectly crafted by specialist shoemakers, only to be ripped, darned and hammered to each dancer’s preference, and their wear-time could be as short as one performance.
Join us in an exclusive event for Silver, Gold and Young Friends to learn all about the process of constructing pointe shoes with Freed of London, who handcraft most of our dancers’ shoes. We will also be joined by Artist Hannah Cubitt to hear about how she customises her own pointe shoes for rehearsals and performances, as well as Company Physiotherapist Rachel Hendrie for an insight into the physical impact of pointework.
Refreshments will be served. Limited to 40 guests.
Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
