Synopsis

Schachmatt

Schachmatt(Checkmate!) by internationally acclaimed choreographer Cayetano Soto, is a quirky, energetic, 20-minute ballet is inspired by the words of Joan Rivers, the films of Pedro Almodovar and the choreography of Bob Fosse, and sees dancers perform with precision and razor-sharp wit across a giant chessboard.

The Grand Pas de Deux from The Nutcracker

The Nutcracker is one of the most beloved and famous ballets, featuring an instantly recognisable and sparkling score by Tchaikovsky.

Based on the tale by German author E.T.A. Hoffman, the story follows Clara’s adventures with her nutcracker doll who is magically transformed into an enchanted prince. After defeating an army of rats and mice, Clara and the prince are transported to the Sugar Plum Fairy’s kingdom where they are treated to an assortment of dances inspired by sweets from around the world.

The Grand Pas de Deux is the show-stopping duet where the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Nutcracker Prince perform to some of Tchaikovsky’s most luscious music. It is one of the highlights of the ballet repertoire.

Dextera

Featuring Sophie Laplane’s trademark quirky style, Dextera is a tour de force of creative ideas, set to the music of Mozart. It is an ode to creators and their hands, paying tribute to an artistic vision that often involves hard physical graft.

Echo Echo

A world premiere of new work by Scottish Ballet’s very own Madeline Squire. Echo Echo is a piece that plays with the traditional pas de deux structure, exploring intricate, complex, and dynamic contemporary movement. A fresh take on tradition, Echo Echo delves into two people deconstructing their connection, then finding each other again.

Madeline is a First Artist at Scottish Ballet, and a creative dance artist, choreographer, and movement director. She has created work independently and for Scottish Ballet, Nowness and Nexus Studios. Madeline’s work is influenced from her own experience of neurological recovery and approach to disability.
