What we’re looking for

Scottish Ballet is recruiting a Leader for its Orchestra.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Scotland’s award winning national dance company.

What you need to know

The Scottish Ballet Orchestra (SBO) tours with the company (on a freelance basis) for approximately 18 weeks per year to major venues throughout Scotland and the UK, performing an eclectic mix of repertoire from contemporary electronica such as Mikael Karlsson’s Coppélia, to Peter Salem’s jazz-inspired A Streetcar Named Desire, and classics such as Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, and the upcoming Winter season Cinders! with music by Prokofiev.

  • An ability to maintain team spirit
  • Positively promoting future talent
  • A strong ability to work as part of a successful team including visiting Conductors and SBO Musicians

How to apply

Auditions for the position of Leader will be held in Glasgow in early Autumn 2023.

Auditionees will be asked to prepare two pieces of music selected by the panel (we will let you know what those are in advance) and also furnished with a number of orchestral excerpts to prepare.

The panel will be made up of a mix of representatives including SBO Member/s and Principal Players from outside of the SBO. Successful auditionees will be awarded a trial period with Scottish Ballet.
